This beautiful zafu is named for Alchi, a hamlet high in the Indian Himalayas. Alchi is home to a small 900-year old Buddhist monastery. This temple complex has some of the best-preserved examples of Buddhist art, from walls covered with hundreds of small seated Buddhas to weathered paintings of ikat fabric decorating the ceilings. A coveted commodity along Asia’s great Silk Road, the skill and time required to dye and weave ikat is so revered in some cultures it is believed the cloth is imbued with magical powers.
Cream base featuring gray and orange embroidered motif; distressed ikat digitally printed bottom in orange, purple, and gold tones. Accented with illuminating orange, a color significant in Hindu, Buddhist and Sikh faiths, and festooned with a lovely tassel. 100% cotton cover and liner; adjustable buckwheat hull fill contours to the body. So lovely you won't want to put away your chattra meditation cushion.
