Our hand-block printed Black Bandhani Market Tote is fashioned after shopping totes common in Indian bazaars -- with lots of space (and two pockets!) to carry meditation or retreat essentials or daily shopping.

Artisans hand-block print chattra Market Totes in richly colored prints inspired by the architecture of India's historical palaces, forts and temples, textiles, and spiritual practices. Crafted in ethical workshop in India using traditional techniques.

The delicate, complicated pattern of Black Bandhani Market Tote is inspired by the dots and circles of Bandhani tie and dye textiles. Bandhani comes from the Hindi word bandhan, meaning tying up, and is used in the turbans, saris and skirts of Rajasthan and Gujurat.

Hand-block printed in deep black; illuminating orange piping; contrasting inner and outer pockets; adorned with a colorful tassel like those seen on the camels of Rajasthan's great Thar desert.

The artisan's hand work is revealed in each chattra textile, including print density and block alignment; imperfections are characteristic and add to the charm of this traditional technique.  Read more about Rajasthan block print methods, and learn about the meaning of orange in Hindu, Buddhist and Sikh faiths.  (zafu pictured is for scale only and is sold separately)
