chattra creates small-batch, hand-block printed yoga and meditation gear crafted by master artisans in India and finished in the USA. Inspired by the design, architecture and spiritual heritage of the sub-continent and offered in rich colors, chattra products feature illuminating orange detail and are adorned with a colorful tassel like those seen on the camels of Rajasthan’s great Thar desert. chattra products are made in ethical workshops dedicated to preserving India’s incredible textile heritage. Divine in any home or studio setting.
chattra founder Ann Mordine and her family lived and traveled in India from 2007-2013. Ann was taken by the beauty of India’s art and architecture, intrigued by the calm and chaos of its culture, moved by the devotion and spirit of its people and their traditions. She also practiced a lot of amazing yoga and developed a passion for textiles. Upon returning to the US, she completed teacher training and is a 200-hour RYT.
chattra introduced its first line in 2014, offering yoga and meditation practitioners a bit more beauty and inspiration for their sacred practice spaces. chattra products have appeared as set decor on NBC, Amazon, NetFlix and Hulu produced TV shows. Our bolsters and zafus have been included at Wanderlust festivals, YogaOutlet retreats and Asheville Yoga Festival. And our zafus are used in Roxbury Hotel New York's wellness program. chattra fabrics decorate the interiors of LA's The Den Meditation and the Bay Area's Namaste Yoga & Wellness studios.
chattra is proud to have its yoga bolsters named Editor's Pick by Yoga Journal and its zafu meditation cushions certified Yogi Approved.
Sanskrit for parasol, chattra symbolizes dignity and protection. In Buddhism, a chattra tops stupa monuments and often represents the Buddha. The playful and profound elephant-headed Hindu deity Ganesha, remover of obstacles and Lord of Beginnings, often carries a chattra. Lovely meanings to enhance yoga practice.
