Navy Bandhani Oval Bolster's print is inspired by the dots and circles of tie-and-dye textiles. From the Hindi word bandhan (tying up), turbans, saris and skirts of Rajasthan and Gujurat are often printed by bandhani.  Screen printed in rich blue by master artisans in India, this chattra beauty is accented with illuminating orange, a color significant in Hindu, Buddhist and Sikh faiths, and festooned with a colorful tassel like those seen on the camels of Rajasthan’s great Thar Desert. 100% cotton cover, liner and firm cotton fill. So lovely your practice will be inspired.

the making
Screen printing, one of the earliest textile techniques for creating precise images on cloth, is a multi-step process requiring skill and patience. Fabric is stretched flat then overlayed with a design motif blocking stencil.  A handmade screen is placed on top of the cloth and stencil.  Ink is applied, then a blade is moved across the screen, pushing the ink through to print pattern to cloth.  Often, as with chattra screen printing, two master printers move the blade across the fabric;  the action is meditative and rhythmic. The cloth is then heated to bond ink to fabric, followed by washing and pressing before cutting and stitching.
