Our hand-block printed Horizon Ikat Market Tote is fashioned after shopping totes common in Indian bazaars -- with lots of space (and two pockets!) to carry meditation or retreat essentials or daily shopping.
Artisans hand-block print chattra Market Totes in richly colored prints inspired by the architecture of India's historical palaces, forts and temples, textiles, and spiritual practices. Crafted in ethical workshop in India using traditional techniques.
The classic pattern of ikat cloth inspired chattra’s Horizon Ikat Market Tote print. A coveted commodity along Asia’s great Silk Road, the skill and time required to dye and weave ikat is so revered in some cultures it’s believed the cloth is imbued with magical powers. If you’re ever at Lotsa Temple in Alchi in Ladakh, look for ikat patterns painted on the ceiling.
Hand block-printed in beautiful warm blue; illuminating orange piping; contrasting inner and outer pockets; adorned with a colorful tassel like those seen on the camels of Rajasthan's great Thar desert.
The artisan's hand work is revealed in each chattra textile, including print density and block alignment; imperfections are characteristic and add to the charm of this traditional technique.
